Greenwich Advice Hubs Deliver £5.9 Million in Financial Support to Local Residents

Since their establishment in 2022, the Advice Hubs operating across the Royal Borough of Greenwich have emerged as an essential lifeline for more than 8,750 local residents. In just under four years, dedicated advisors have successfully assisted community members in securing almost £5.9 million in additional income by guiding them through the process of claiming the financial support they are rightfully entitled to receive.

A Welcoming Space for Complex Issues

The hubs offer a warm and welcoming environment for anyone requiring assistance with benefits, housing, or immigration matters. Councillor Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, emphasized the significant impact of these services. "The fact that our Advice Hubs have put £5.9 million worth of financial support directly into the pockets of our residents is a testament to the impact these hubs have," he stated. He further noted that rising living costs continue to affect the community, making these hubs a trusted space to navigate increasingly complex bureaucratic systems.

Face-to-Face Support Making a Difference

Councillor Jackie Smith added her perspective on the importance of personal interaction. "Our Advice Hubs give residents somewhere welcoming where they can talk through their situation and get the support they need, helping them through financial struggles or complicated systems," she explained. She highlighted that these face-to-face sessions, held in community centres, are particularly effective in reaching individuals who might otherwise feel too overwhelmed to seek help. "We know that asking for help can sometimes feel overwhelming, but these face-to-face hubs in community centres are opening doors for people who wouldn’t usually seek help," she elaborated.

Overwhelming Positive Feedback from the Community

The positive impact of the Advice Hubs is clearly demonstrated by resident feedback. A survey revealed that 70% of respondents admitted they would have struggled to find assistance without this local service. Personal testimonials further underscore the value of the hubs. One resident shared, "When my husband passed away, I was able to get good advice, for that I am so grateful." Another neighbour commented, "It was helpful to have several options and locations to attend, and the advice received enabled me to see a way forward to resolve the problem."

Collaborative Service Delivery and Accessibility

The Advice Hubs service is delivered through a strong partnership model involving Citizens Advice, Greenwich Housing Rights, and the Plumstead Community Law Centre. Additional support is facilitated through local partners including Clockhouse Community Centre, Lewisham Refugee Migrant Network, and Peabody Community Trust. Sessions are available from Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays, at various locations throughout the borough, ensuring widespread accessibility for all residents in need of support.
