Battersea, the renowned animal charity, is marking National Dog Day on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, by highlighting five of its most memorable canine residents. Each dog, from a playful Husky cross to a bonded pair of Chihuahua crosses, is currently waiting for a new home, and the charity hopes the spotlight will help them find the right match.
Since its founding in 1860, Battersea has championed dogs of every age, size, and breed. While the charity has evolved considerably over the past 165 years, its dedication to canine welfare remains unchanged. A Celebration of Canine Individuality
Laura Alwen, rehoming and welfare manager at Battersea, emphasized that no two rescue dogs are alike. "There's no such thing as a typical Battersea dog," she said. "Every rescue who comes into our care has their own personality, preferences and quirks."
Alwen explained that the charity's expert teams invest time in understanding each dog's unique needs. "Our expert teams take the time to get to know each individual dog, so we can give them the best possible care while they're with us and build a picture of the type of home and family where they'd thrive," she added.
She described National Dog Day as "a wonderful opportunity to celebrate just how different each of our canine residents can be, and to introduce some of the brilliant characters currently looking for homes."

Lula, a seven-month-old Husky cross, is described as "gorgeous" and full of energy, true to her breed. She loves meeting new people and other dogs, and is seeking an active home where she can receive plenty of attention, exercise, and ongoing training.
Buster, a sweet senior Staffy cross, prefers a quieter life. He enjoys gentle walks and soaking up affection from his favorite people. As an older gentleman, Buster is looking for a peaceful home with a comfy bed and a caring companion.
