Birmingham is set to welcome hundreds of four-legged visitors this Saturday for the annual Paws in the Park event, which promises a day of puppuccinos, play, and prizes. Organisers expect over 500 dogs to attend the free-to-enter festival at Cannon Hill Park, running from 10am to 4pm.
Puppuccinos and Prize Giveaways
The highlight of the event is the popular puppuccino station, where dogs can enjoy a special whipped cream treat made with dog-friendly ingredients. Local coffee shops will also offer human versions for owners. Prize giveaways include dog accessories, toys, and a year's supply of premium dog food, sponsored by a Birmingham pet store.
According to event coordinator Sarah Johnson, "We're thrilled to bring the community together for a day focused on our furry friends. The puppuccino bar is always a hit, and this year we've added more activities to ensure every dog has a tail-wagging good time."
Agility Courses and Training Demonstrations
A dedicated agility area will feature tunnels, jumps, and weave poles for dogs of all sizes and skill levels. Professional trainers from Pawsitive Steps Dog Training will lead demonstrations and offer free tips for owners. A separate quiet zone will be available for anxious or nervous dogs.
Veterinary charity PDSA will host a health-check booth, offering free mini-consultations and advice on nutrition, dental care, and parasite prevention. Last year, over 100 dogs received checks at similar events across the West Midlands.
Community Support and Charity Fundraising
The event also supports local animal charities. A portion of proceeds from food and merchandise stalls will go to Birmingham Dogs Home, a rescue centre that rehomes around 600 dogs annually. "Events like this not only celebrate the joy dogs bring but also raise vital funds for those in need," said a spokesperson for the charity.
Attendees can also take part in a sponsored dog walk around the park, with prizes for the fastest and most creatively dressed pooches. Registration for the walk costs £5 per dog, with all proceeds donated to the rescue centre.
What to Bring and Event Details
Owners are advised to bring water bowls, waste bags, and leads. The park has ample green space for picnics, and a designated off-leash area will be marked. In case of rain, a marquee will provide shelter for the main activities. Parking is available at the nearby multi-storey car park, with blue badge spaces reserved.
