What began as a modest plan to take a small group of nursery children to the seaside blossomed into a massive community outing, as nearly 200 parents, grandparents, and children joined the excursion. Staff at Little Adventures Organic Nursery & Preschool in Washwood Heath had initially hoped to fill a single coach, but the overwhelming response led them to book four coaches and transport 192 people to Weston-super-Mare.
For many of the families, this was their first-ever visit to the beach, making the day especially significant. The trip was made possible largely through Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) funding, which helped remove financial barriers and gave families from the local community the chance to spend quality time together and create lasting memories.
An Unforgettable Day for Families
The excursion was not just about reaching the seaside; it was a day filled with joy and discovery. Children paddled in the sea, built sandcastles, played games on the sand, and soaked up the traditional British seaside experience alongside their parents, grandparents, and siblings. For many, it was a first glimpse of the ocean, a moment of pure excitement that staff and families alike will treasure.
Nursery manager Karen Gordon expressed her amazement at the turnout, stating, "We honestly thought we'd be lucky to fill one coach, to see four coaches leaving together with so many excited children and their families was incredibly special." She added, "What made the day even more memorable was seeing grandparents, mums, dads and brothers and sisters all sharing the experience together. For many of our children it was their first visit to the seaside, and seeing their excitement when they reached the beach was something none of us will forget."

The success of the trip highlighted the power of community and the importance of accessible family experiences. Gordon noted, "We've received so many lovely messages from parents afterwards thanking us for organising the trip and telling us how much it meant to them. It really showed what can happen when a community comes together."

Watching nearly 200 people share that experience, many visiting the seaside for the first time, was incredibly moving. It perfectly reflects what we're trying to achieve by putting families and childhood experiences at the heart of everything we do."
