The Community Network Volunteer Celebration brought together individuals and groups who help keep Littleover clean, safe, and connected. Representatives attended from St Peter's Church, Littleover in Bloom, Community Speedwatch, Tranquility Café, Greener Derby, local faith groups, and public sector partners.
Volunteer Contributions Recognized
These groups work throughout the year to improve local spaces, boost safety, and reduce isolation for residents. Their combined efforts help build stronger neighbourhood connections and support community wellbeing. The network is facilitated by Daniel Giles, neighborhood manager for Derby City Council.
Local councillors funded the venue and provided light refreshments to show gratitude to dedicated helpers. The evening highlighted how unpaid helpers support warm hubs, care home residents, and local park events across Derby.
Certificates of Appreciation
Littleover in Bloom volunteers received certificates of appreciation from Daniel Giles to boost safety. Rosehill Sports club volunteers also received certificates, as did Littleover Baptist and Tranquility Café volunteers.
Meetings take place every two months to coordinate local projects and strengthen ties with services like Safer Neighbourhood Teams.
Upcoming Project: The Big Conversation
The group is now preparing for its next major project, 'The Big Conversation: Living, Ageing and Dying Well', which will bring around 30 organisations together to offer guidance on later-life choices. The session aims to help residents make informed decisions early, long before important choices need to be made on their behalf.
