Rossendale Ramblers enjoy 10-mile walk, garden party, and raise £200 for charity
Rossendale Ramblers: 10-mile walk, garden party, £200 charity

On a sunny but not too warm Wednesday, 21 ramblers set off on a 10-mile walk from the village of Gargrave in North Yorkshire, not far from Rossendale. The leader guided the group along the Pennine Way to Airton on the River Aire, then to Calton and up to Winterburn, offering excellent views all around.

Garden party raises nearly £200 for charity

On Saturday, over 40 members attended a garden party at the home of one of the group. A 'Jacob's Join' provided more than enough food, and conversation was lively until the 'Rocky Ramblers' performed tuneful and amusing entertainment. A bring-and-buy stall raised almost £200 for rambling-related charities.

The following day, 13 ramblers discussed the event on a six-mile walk from Ball Grove Park in Colne. Much of this rural ramble followed the East Colne Way, in the 'green lungs' of the area. The group also tip-toed across Colne golf course before returning to the park for refreshments.

Upcoming walks: pub walks, Pendle Way, and Knott End-on-Sea

On Saturday, August 22, the group will host another popular two-hour pub walk, starting from Marl Pits. The walk will include Seat Naze and come close to Whitewell Bottom before returning for optional refreshments and lunch. According to the Rossendale Ramblers, these walks are the best way to get to know the group, so members encourage newcomers to come along.

On the following day, the group will set off from the village of Higham for a six-mile walk that includes the Pendle Way, Greenhead Manor, and the oddly-named Rigg of England. On Wednesday, August 26, they will head to Knott End-on-Sea for a 10-mile remarkably flat walk around the estuary of the River Wyre, described as not to be missed.

Free walks and membership details

All walks are free, but after three walks with the group, participants are asked to join The Ramblers at a cost of only £3.75 per month.
