Two dedicated Sefton residents have been officially recognized for their outstanding community contributions through honorary awards presented by Sefton Council. David Forshaw and Ray Mutch were nominated by local figure David Barton and honored at a ceremony organized by Sefton 4 Good, the official charity arm of Sefton CVS and Sefton Council. Since 2012, Sefton 4 Good has celebrated unsung heroes making a lasting impact across the borough.
Recognizing Musical Heritage
David Forshaw, known for his work with 'Merseybeat Scene,' was nominated for his unwavering support of the North Liverpool musical community. For decades, he has backed young artists at historic clubs across Sefton and Merseyside, helping to preserve and promote local music heritage. Upon receiving the award, Forshaw expressed gratitude, thanking his daughters Karen and Jo for ensuring he could attend the ceremony. Reflecting on his years of dedication, he said, 'Be it The Aintree Institute or St. John's Hall I've been pleased to do what I can to support the wider musical community across Sefton and Merseyside and I hope that I've managed to leave a strong legacy for others to pursue their musical ambitions.'
Championing Cycling and Environment
Ray Mutch, founder of 'MakeItCycle,' was honored for his work supporting people of all ages through volunteering and practical activities focused on bicycle repair, retail, and recycling. His project benefits the environment while fostering community connections. Accepting the award, Mutch shared how deeply humbled he felt, noting that meeting other nominees and learning about their contributions was his greatest pleasure. He added, 'I hope that I may encourage others to get involved. I'd like to thank Daniel Kirk for being a stalwart of support.'

David Barton, who nominated both individuals, expressed pride in seeing their efforts officially recognized. He remarked on the incredible variety of talent across Sefton, calling Forshaw and Mutch 'two shining stars' who demonstrate the difference one person can make.
