The Sunshine Fund hosted a special event last Saturday, inviting nearly 200 community members to Newcastle Utilita Arena for an exclusive preview of Beyond Van Gogh, an immersive exhibition celebrating the Dutch painter's work. The event was a collaboration with local charity North East Sight Matters and made possible by White Hot Communications.
Exhibition Link to Charity's Cause
The exhibition, famous worldwide, was announced to be coming to Newcastle. White Hot Communications invited the Sunshine Fund to host a private preview due to the obvious link with their cause and Van Gogh's famous piece 'Sunflowers'. This gave families and supporters a free opportunity to enjoy the experience.
Sensory Experience for Families
Attendees were encouraged to wear yellow and given sunflowers to wave to officially open the exhibition. The main room provided a sensory experience with projected images and calming sounds. Many children enjoyed lying on cushions, relaxing in the calming ambience. One parent said, 'The whole experience was so relaxing and rejuvenating, I felt like a different person. My son enjoyed it so much and we loved the art set up outside for a quiet space when it got too much. Thank you for inviting the whole family so we could all get a memorable day out.'
Upcoming Duck Race Event
This Saturday, the Sunshine Fund will be at Gosforth Farmers Market selling ducks for the Ponteland Duck Race on Sunday 6th September. Ducks can be purchased for £2 each or £10 for a duck in each of five races. Kids can take ducks home to decorate and bring on race day. Prizes will be awarded for fastest duck and best decorated. Entries can also be purchased online at www.thesunshinefund.org/duckrace. Winners will be contacted after the event, with cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each race.
Business Boat Races and Attractions
Two Business Boat Races will kick off the event, inviting local organisations to compete. Winning businesses receive a luxury hamper. The event will also feature fairground rides, food and drink stalls, a market with local traders, games, a raffle, and opportunities to win prizes.
