A dedicated team of 12 local colleagues recently volunteered their time at Charlie's Place Animal Sanctuary in Pilsley, near Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The group, from Markerstudy Group and Auto Windscreens, spent the day helping to care for around 100 animals at the sanctuary, which was founded in 2018 by Claire and Wil Robinson in memory of their beloved ex-racehorse, Charlie.
Supporting a Sanctuary with a Special Mission
Charlie's Place provides a second chance at life for rescued animals that require extra care. The sanctuary's name honors Charlie, a cherished ex-racehorse, and the facility continues to offer warmth and comfort to local animals thanks to the support of community helpers. The volunteers' efforts were focused on a range of important tasks across the sanctuary grounds.
From Fence Repairs to Feeding the Animals
The team rolled up their sleeves to tackle a wide variety of jobs, including fixing fences, putting up bird boxes, cleaning out pens, sanitising medical equipment, clearing fields, and feeding the animals. These tasks are essential for the smooth running of the sanctuary but are often difficult for the small team to complete on their own.
Volunteers and Founder Share Their Gratitude
Lee Marriott, one of the volunteers, said: “It was great to know we were able to help the team at Charlie’s Place catch up on jobs they don’t always have the time to complete. Most importantly, everyone came away feeling like they had made a genuine difference.”
Claire Robinson, co-founder of the sanctuary, added: “It’s so heartwarming to feel supported by the local community. Everyone was lovely on the day and worked extremely hard.”
