Residents in Wednesbury have been left puzzled after a strange, 'sinister' humming noise echoed through the town for several hours overnight. The sound, which one local described as 'straight out of a horror film', was heard on Dagger Lane from around 2am until just before 4am, with a faint recurrence about an hour later.
Ptolemy Templeton O'Flaherety took to the Wednesbury People Facebook page to ask if others had also heard the unexplained noise. In a detailed post, they described being woken at 2am by the sound, which continued until approximately 3.51am. The post also mentioned a strange electrical sensation, described as 'an electric pulse or shock moving through my body', which woke them again at around 5am when the noise was heard faintly in the distance.
Residents share their experiences
Others quickly responded to the post, confirming they too had been aware of the noise. Elspeth Dumont commented that her nan, who lives in Bearwood, was woken by the same sound and was 'terrified' by it. Joanne Griffith added that she had heard the noise on previous nights, saying it 'used to drive me mad' and that she couldn't rationalise what it could possibly be coming from, though she hadn't heard it for a while.
The post also noted that similar unexplained humming sounds have been reported in parts of the US for quite some time. O'Flaherety admitted to going down an internet rabbit hole researching the phenomenon, describing it as 'a very strange rabbit hole to go down'.

As of now, no official explanation has been provided for the source of the noise. The sound, which lasted for nearly two hours, has left local residents searching for answers, with many turning to social media to share their experiences and theories.
