More than £100,000 in suspected 'dirty money' has been seized from two Birmingham locations as part of an ongoing investigation into organised drug crime in the city. The cash, believed to be profits from a local drugs line operated by an organised crime group, was recovered during raids carried out by the Birmingham East Gangs Team.
Officers found £96,000 at a property in Stechford and a further £10,000 at an address in Alum Rock. The seizures follow a series of raids conducted last year as part of the drug dealing probe, with the cash being identified as funds that could not be legitimately accounted for.
Court order secures forfeiture
Following the discovery, police pursued a forfeiture application under the Proceeds of Crime Act to permanently seize the money. The request was made in court and was not contested at a hearing on Monday, August 3. This means the funds can now be recouped and redirected for public benefit.
According to West Midlands Police, the money will be reinvested into safety initiatives and community projects through the Government, the Crown Prosecution Service, and the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner.

Detective Inspector Matt Baldwin, from Birmingham Police, said: “We’re relentless in pursuing criminals, including those suspected of being members of organised crime groups, and we have teams of officers working to bring them to justice.
“What this seizure shows though is that we don’t stop there – and if we suspect money is linked to criminality, we will seize it to make sure they can’t benefit from their crimes in the future.
“It’s good news that this money has not only been recovered but can be reinvested into making a positive difference in communities.”
