Around 25 firefighters have been deployed to a large fire in Gildas Avenue, Kings Norton, Birmingham, this evening, according to West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS). The service has sent five crews to the scene, with an estimated total of 25 firefighters.
The cause of the blaze is not yet known. WMFS has urged members of the public to avoid the area while crews work to bring the fire under control.
A spokesperson for WMFS said: "We have five crews in attendance at Gildas Avenue, Kings Norton, Birmingham, where they have responded to a large fire. Please avoid the area, where possible."
One of Four Fires in the Region
The Kings Norton incident is one of four fires that WMFS crews have attended across the West Midlands this evening. The service is also dealing with a significant grass fire in Brownhills, Walsall, where around 40 firefighters have been sent to Lindon Road.
In addition, four crews, totalling an estimated 20 firefighters, have responded to a large grassland fire on Sheepwash Lane in Tipton. Meanwhile, in Coventry, six crews, with an estimated 30 firefighters, are tackling a wildfire on Brownshill Green Road.
Public Urged to Stay Away
WMFS has not provided further details about the Kings Norton fire, but the repeated advice from the service is for people to steer clear of the affected locations. The service is expected to provide updates as the situation develops.
Residents in the vicinity of Gildas Avenue are advised to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution. The fire service is working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties.
