In response to the developing situation, Woodland Community Primary School, located near the scene, was advised by authorities to keep all children on the premises as a precautionary measure. This directive was issued just prior to the dismissal of after-school clubs, ensuring the safety of students and staff during the police activity.
Headteacher Keeley Taberner expressed gratitude in a Facebook post, stating, "Thank you to our school community—parents, carers, children, and staff—who responded quickly when school was advised to keep the children on the premises just before dismissal from after school club. It was reassuring that the measures we have in place worked effectively."

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police confirmed the details of the incident, noting, "We received a report of a man thought to be in possession of a machete on Birch Green Road in Skelmersdale shortly after 3:05 PM today. Officers, including armed officers, attended and searched the area."
