Police Arrest Suspect After Stabbing Incident Near Alum Rock Nursery
Police have made an arrest after a man was seriously injured in a stabbing near a nursery in Alum Rock this afternoon, Tuesday. West Midlands Police deployed armed officers to Bridge Road just after 12:06pm following multiple 999 reports of a serious assault.
Scene Lockdown and Forensic Investigation
A nearby nursery on Bridge Road was placed in immediate lockdown after witnesses reported seeing a man stabbing another man in the street shortly after midday. Forensic officers are currently combing the area for evidence, and the road remains cordoned off while police conduct their investigation.
A blue forensic tent has been erected in the middle of the road, just yards from The Rosary Catholic Primary School. The Village Community Nursery also falls within the police cordon area. Officers are guarding the junction of Bridge Road and Parkfield Road, adjacent to Our Lady of the Rosary and St Therese Roman Catholic Church.
Community Reaction and Official Statements
A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told reporters: "It's shocking that it happened just outside the school. I only hope no kids saw it as it was just before lunchtime."
Birmingham City Council Leader Councillor John Cotton stated: "Suspect in custody after a horrible incident in Alum Rock this afternoon and my thoughts are with everyone affected. Please give the emergency services space to do their jobs and avoid speculation."
Police Investigation Details
Detective Superintendent James Munro from West Midlands Police said: "We believe this to be a contained incident with a man in custody. We are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to a number of people in the area. But would appeal to anyone who has any information to get in touch."
He added: "We understand how deeply distressing and concerning this incident is and we will have extra officers in the area to offer reassurance to the community."

Emergency Response and Medical Treatment
West Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched three ambulances, two paramedic officers, a trauma team, and the air ambulance after receiving multiple emergency calls. A spokeswoman confirmed: "Crews arrived to find a man with serious injuries and administered advanced life support on scene. A second patient, a woman, was treated for less serious injuries."
The woman sustained injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this violent incident in the Alum Rock community.
