86-Year-Old Man Arrested Over 1993 Farmhouse Double Murder in Llanharry
Arrest in 30-year-old Llanharry farmhouse murder case

An 86-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the unsolved murders of a Welsh couple who were found shot dead in a cowshed more than three decades ago.

A Chilling Discovery on a Welsh Farm

The bodies of Harry Tooze, 64, and his wife Megan, 67, were discovered at their farmhouse, Ty Ar y Waun, in the village of Llanharry, near Cardiff, on July 26, 1993. The couple had left their home that morning to collect their pensions.

Neighbours reported hearing two gunshots at around 1.30pm, but the sounds were not initially reported to emergency services as they were considered a normal occurrence on a farm. Alarm was raised only after the couple's daughter could not reach them by telephone.

When police officers attended the remote property, they made the grim discovery of the pensioners with fatal gunshot wounds inside a cowshed.

Forensic Review Leads to Major Breakthrough

For thirty years, the case remained open but unsolved. A significant development came in 2023, when South Wales Police initiated a fresh forensic review of the evidence, hoping modern techniques could uncover new leads.

This review culminated on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, with detectives arresting an 86-year-old man on suspicion of the murders. He was taken into police custody, where he remains for questioning.

Police Appeal for Answers After Three Decades

Detective Superintendent Mark Lewis described the arrest as a "significant development" but stressed that inquiries are ongoing. He directly appealed to the public for assistance.

"This case has affected many people over the years," said DS Lewis. "Our aim is to find the answers to the unanswered questions which remain about their deaths over 30 years on. Even with this passage of time, I appeal to anyone who has any information about the murders to come forward and speak to police."

Anyone with information is urged to contact South Wales Police, quoting occurrence number 2300016841. Information can also be given anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their website.
