Knifeman with Birmingham Accent Robs Teenagers on Canal Towpath
Two teenagers were threatened and robbed of their bicycles by a man armed with a knife on the canal towpath near Hopwas Woods. The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 1, at approximately 3pm along the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal.
Details of the Robbery
The teenage boy and girl were cycling when they were approached by a man in his 20s, described as having a stocky build. He was wearing a grey Montrex tracksuit and a balaclava. The suspect showed the handle of a bladed item tucked into his waistband, intimidating the victims before stealing their bikes.
The stolen bicycles were identified as a dark blue Trek/8 and a black & yellow LIV Embolden 2 pedal bike. The robber was a pillion passenger on a white Husqvarna crosser-type motorbike and was part of a larger group on motorbikes of varying kinds.
Police Appeal for Information
Staffordshire Police have launched an appeal for information following the robbery. A spokesperson stated, "We are appealing for information after two pedal cycles were stolen from two teenagers on the canal towpath at Hopwas Woods."
The suspect is said to have spoken with a Birmingham accent. After the robbery, the group fled down Lichfield Road towards the centre of Tamworth.
