Birmingham Christmas Market stabbing: Police reassure visitors after teen attack
Birmingham Christmas Market stabbing: Police reassurance

West Midlands Police has moved to reassure the public following a stabbing incident near Birmingham's popular Christmas market, emphasising that visitor safety remains a top priority.

Charges brought following city centre disorder

The reassurance comes after a 17-year-old teenager was stabbed during disorder outside the Bullring shopping centre on the evening of Thursday, November 13. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment following the attack.

In a significant development, law enforcement has since charged three individuals in connection with the violent episode. Two 18-year-old men and a 15-year-old boy face charges of wounding with intent, affray, and possession of a bladed article.

The accused are scheduled to make their first appearance at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on November 17.

Police response and increased visibility

Acknowledging public concern, a spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated: "We understand why these incidents have caused concern for visitors to the city - and people that live and work here."

The force has implemented immediate measures to bolster security, particularly around the Frankfurt Christmas market area. High-visibility patrols have been stepped up and will operate around the clock in key locations throughout the city centre.

The police spokesperson added: "We have increased our patrols in the city centre, as whether you're out and about enjoying Birmingham's Frankfurt Christmas market, shopping, or working, we want the city centre to be a safe and welcoming place for you."

Context of recent violence

This incident represents one of four stabbings that have occurred in Birmingham city centre over a period of just over a month, highlighting ongoing concerns about urban violence.

In a separate tragic case, 34-year-old Katie Fox was fatally stabbed at a bus stop on Smallbrook Queensway shortly after 9pm on Friday, November 7. A man has been charged with murder in connection with her death.

Additionally, two further stabbings were reported during October, contributing to a pattern of violence that authorities are working to address through increased police presence and community engagement.
