West Midlands Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver after a 68-year-old pedestrian was killed on Stratford Road in Hall Green, Birmingham, on the evening of Thursday, September 4. The collision occurred at around 8.45pm near an Aldi store and the junction with Wycome Road. The vehicle involved, described as dark-coloured, was driven away from the scene immediately after the crash.
The man was on foot when he was struck. Despite the efforts of paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service, he was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests have been made, and police inquiries are ongoing.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Footage
In a statement, West Midlands Police said: "We're appealing for witnesses after a man was killed when he was hit by a car which was then driven away in Birmingham last night. The 68-year-old man was on foot when he was hit by the dark-coloured vehicle, on Stratford Road in Hall Green near Aldi and the junction with Wycome Road, at around 8.45pm yesterday. Despite the best efforts of colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service, he was pronounced dead at the scene. We've been carrying out urgent enquiries overnight to identify the car and driver involved."
Detective Sergeant Julie Lyman, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts today are with the family of the man who died, and we're supporting his family. It's vital we identify the car and driver involved as soon as possible. If you are that driver, I'd urge you to do the right thing and come and call us straight away. If anyone who was in the area has mobile phone, dash cam or other footage from the time, we'd also like to speak to them as soon as possible."
Road Reopened After Overnight Investigation
A stretch of Stratford Road was closed while collision investigators examined the scene overnight. The road has since been reopened. Police cordon tape remained visible on bushes outside the Aldi supermarket on Friday morning, September 5.
