Birmingham Man, 22, Must Join Sex Offender Register After Police Uncover Vast Collection of Disturbing Images
A young man from Birmingham has been ordered to join the United Kingdom's sex offender register following the discovery of a deeply disturbing collection of images on his electronic devices. Charlton Sutton-Hope, aged 22 and residing on Lytham Croft in Birmingham, was found to possess hundreds of illegal photographs, including child sexual abuse material and extreme pornography involving animals.
Court Hears Details of Extensive Image Collection
During a police search conducted on July 10 of last year, authorities uncovered a total of 127 indecent images of children, with some victims as young as four years old and others up to sixteen years of age. Additionally, investigators discovered 173 extreme pornographic images that depicted acts of intercourse with live animals in an explicit and realistic manner.
The images were categorized according to their severity, with 72 falling into category A, which represents the most severe type of child sexual abuse material. Five images were classified as category B, while fifty were identified as category C. Sutton-Hope admitted to both possession and distribution of these illegal materials.
Guilty Pleas and Court Proceedings
Appearing at Birmingham Magistrates' Court this week, Sutton-Hope pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of making indecent images of a child, possession of an extreme pornographic image, possession of a prohibited image of a child, and three counts of distributing indecent images of a child. Due to the seriousness of the offenses, the case has been transferred to Birmingham Crown Court for sentencing, scheduled for May 19.
Prosecutor Ms. Pogorzelska informed the court that the starting point for sentencing is three years in custody, which exceeds the sentencing powers of the magistrates' court. The only mitigating factor presented was Sutton-Hope's lack of previous criminal convictions.
Strict Bail Conditions Imposed
While awaiting sentencing, Sutton-Hope has been placed under stringent bail conditions designed to protect the public, particularly minors. These conditions include:
- A prohibition on living or working with individuals under the age of eighteen
- No contact with anyone under eighteen through online platforms
- Restrictions on residing in any location where a person under eighteen is living
- No unsupervised visits with individuals under eighteen
- Requirements regarding electronic device usage, including a ban on using incognito mode or virtual private networks
- Mandatory display of full browsing history on all devices
Deputy District Judge Wallace warned Sutton-Hope that any breach of these conditions would result in immediate custody. The judge also ordered a pre-sentence report to be prepared by probation services, which may consider alternatives to imprisonment given the defendant's age and early guilty plea.
Sex Offender Notification Requirements
Effective immediately, Sutton-Hope is subject to sex offender notification requirements, which mandate that he register with police authorities. He must inform law enforcement if he plans to travel abroad or change his residential address. Failure to comply with these registration requirements constitutes a criminal offense.
Judge Wallace explained that the duration of these notification requirements will be determined by the crown court during the sentencing hearing. The case highlights the serious consequences facing individuals who possess and distribute illegal sexual imagery, particularly when it involves vulnerable children and extreme content.
