Rossendale Ramblers completed two walks this week, with 15 members tackling a flat 10-mile route from Knott End-on-Sea on Wednesday, despite a spot of rain, and 21 walkers enjoying a scenic six-mile walk near Pendle Hill on Sunday.
Knott End-on-Sea Walk Features Lowry Tributes
The Wednesday walk from Knott End-on-Sea was described as very agricultural, with hedgerows full of fruitfulness and countless blackberries consumed along the way. At the start of the route, walkers passed two statues, one of a man and one of a dog, which are tributes to artist L S Lowry, who enjoyed sketching in the area.
Scenic Sunday Walk Near Pendle Hill
On Sunday, 21 walkers took part in a six-mile walk from the village of Downham, under the looming bulk of Pendle Hill. The views of the Bowland Fells and a couple of the Yorkshire Three Peaks added significantly to the enjoyment of the walk, according to the group.
Upcoming September Events
Rossendale Ramblers have several upcoming events. On Saturday, September 5, the group invites walkers to join a two-hour pub walk from Tottington, which will amble around the local area before returning to the pub for optional refreshments and lunch. These walks are described as perhaps the best way to get to know the group.
On Sunday, September 6, a number of members will take part in the annual Rossendale Round the Hills Walk, organised by Rossendale Rotary. This 18-mile route showcases the delights of the Rossendale Valley, including the summit of Cowpe Lowe at 440 metres (1440 ft). The group notes it is not for the faint-hearted but is a lovely community day out.
On Wednesday, September 9, the group heads to Tockholes for a 10-mile walk exploring that varied area, including Roddlesworth Moor, Wheelton, Great Hill, and the hamlet of White Coppice.
The walks are free, but after three walks with the group, participants are asked to join The Ramblers at a cost of £3.75 per month.
