Brutal Baseball Bat Attack and Rape Leads to Conviction

A Birmingham man has been found guilty of a horrifying sexual assault during which he beat a woman with a baseball bat. Simon Tang, 56, carried out the violent attack on 5 May near a car park on Birmingham Street in Walsall.

Details of the Violent Assault

During the brutal incident, Tang retrieved a baseball bat from the boot of his car and repeatedly struck his victim, a sex worker. The court heard how the woman suffered extensive bruising to her legs and head as a result of the assault. Following the attack, she demonstrated immense courage by reporting the crime to West Midlands Police.

Investigation and Court Outcome

Specially-trained officers from West Midlands Police supported the victim throughout her recovery and worked with her to build a strong case. Their investigation led to Tang's arrest and subsequent conviction at Birmingham Crown Court. He was found guilty of two counts of rape, possessing an offensive weapon and actual bodily harm. Detective Sergeant Morgan Colley from the investigation team praised the victim's bravery, stating: "This man posed a real danger to women and thanks to her, he has now been convicted of his crimes." Tang, of Weoley Castle Road, Birmingham, has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 30 January.
