A Birmingham man who kicked a police officer in the groin and threatened to 'snap' his 'puny arms off' has been sentenced. Kyle Fradley, 23, a mechanic from Sheldon, admitted the assault during a hearing at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, August 26.
The incident occurred on July 15 in a supermarket car park in Castle Vale, where Fradley was involved in a row with his partner about his mobile phone, prosecutors said. West Midlands Police officers attended the scene after the defendant was reported as "wanted for unrelated matters".
Threat and assault details
Prosecutors told the court that Fradley said to an officer: "I'll snap your puny arms off". He was then "taken to the ground" by an officer who was "hit in the groin" during the struggle. Fradley claimed he acted in self-defence, but he was charged with assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty.
In mitigation, Sarah Rust, defending, said there was not a significant injury inflicted and that her client acknowledged the mistake he made.
Sentencing and costs
Presiding over the case, Tribunal Judge Claire Brocklebank handed Fradley a 12-month community order and ordered him to pay costs of £334. The sentence includes requirements to be completed within the community order period.
The case highlights the risks officers face during routine call-outs and the consequences for those who assault them while on duty. Fradley's admission of the single count means the matter was resolved without a trial.
