Police in Birmingham have launched a major new crackdown on illegally driven and parked vehicles, with six cars and vans seized from a single street in the opening salvo of the operation.
Formans Road Targeted in Enforcement Blitz
The concentrated vehicle seizure operation, which began at the start of December, focused specifically on Formans Road in the Sparkhill area. Officers from Springfield and Sparkhill Police moved in swiftly, towing away a total of six vehicles from the one location.
The primary reason for the seizures was that the vehicles were untaxed. Police highlighted one particularly egregious case where a car had not been taxed since 2018, representing a period of non-compliance lasting approximately seven years.
Police Vow to Continue and "Change the Scope"
Authorities have made it clear this is not a one-off action. Using social media to share images of the seized vehicles, officers issued a direct warning to motorists, urging them to check their vehicle tax status immediately.
The police have vowed to continue the push against non-compliance, stating they intend to "change the scope" concerning untaxed vehicles on the city's streets. This suggests similar enforcement actions are likely to follow in other areas of Birmingham.
For drivers, the message is unequivocal: ensure your vehicle is fully taxed and meets all legal requirements to avoid being the next to be towed away.
