The full scale of the devastation caused by a fire on a Birmingham street has become clear. The blaze broke out on Gorleston Road in Warstock and was visible for miles, particularly from the nearby Daisy Farm Park.
Fire Started Near Daisy Farm Park
It is believed the fire started in the park, which is near the Maypole. The day after the incident, the extent of the damage was evident. Residents told the BBC they were kept out of their homes until 2.30am while West Midlands Fire Service dealt with the blaze.
Emergency services advised all residents living nearby to keep their windows and doors firmly closed to avoid smoke inhalation. People were also asked to avoid the area where possible, to allow emergency vehicles clear access to the scene.
Community Shelter Opened
Warstock Community Centre was opened to offer shelter from the fire in South Birmingham. A spokesperson said: "We are providing immediate shelter from the fires around the local areas at Warstock Community Centre. All members of the community and pets are welcome. We have basic supplies of refreshments free of charge."
Dramatic footage showed houses ablaze in Daisy Farm Park, capturing the intensity of the fire as it raged. The incident has left a lasting impact on the local community, with the aftermath visible in the burnt-out houses on Gorleston Road.
