A Birmingham teenager has admitted carrying a knife in the city centre after telling police he had the weapon, a court has heard.
Tyler Shelton, 18, of Farren Road, Birmingham, pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article, namely a Stanley knife, at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, August 25.
Officers found Shelton in Navigation Street, near New Street Station, at around 3am on Sunday, July 12 this year.
Defendant called police for help
Prosecuting, Ms Begum said: "On the date in question officers attended Navigation Street at 3am. They located the defendant, he had called the police to let them know his location to take him back to his care facility. He told officers he had a knife."
She made an order for the deprivation of the knife. Shelton, who turned 18 four days before the hearing, was "previously of good character" before the knife possession.
Judge defers sentence for probation report
Judge Hayles told him: "I am not prepared to sentence you today without you having seen probation service and them being able to do a report."
He said he hoped probation would be able to determine "why you are carrying an unpleasant article in a public place at 3am."
The case was adjourned until November 6 for a pre-sentence report. He was released on unconditional bail to comply with probation.
