Birmingham Teen Charged with Tesco Staff Assault

A teenage boy from Birmingham has been charged with stealing items and attacking staff at a Tesco supermarket in the Black Country.

Incident at Tesco Extra

The alleged offence occurred at the Tesco Extra store in Wisemore, Walsall town centre, on Thursday, May 14. Items were reportedly taken from the shelves shortly after 7pm.

Police Response

Officers from West Midlands Police’s St Matthew’s neighbourhood team responded to the scene and arrested a teenager. They then searched his home in Birmingham, where they allegedly discovered a Zombie knife.

Charges Filed

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with theft, possessing an offensive weapon, two counts of common assault, and one count of criminal damage. He was scheduled to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 15.

Police Statement

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We’ve arrested and charged a 17-year-old boy for theft and assaulting two staff members at a Walsall supermarket. He is charged with theft, possessing an offensive weapon, two charges of common assault and one charge of criminal damage. It relates to a theft from a supermarket on Wisemore on Thursday, shortly after 7.10pm.”

The statement added: “Items were taken from the shelves without payment and two members of staff were assaulted when they approached the suspect. Fast responding St Matthew’s neighbourhood officers arrested him shortly afterwards and took him into custody. He was later charged with the offences. Officers later searched his Birmingham address and recovered a Zombie knife.”
