Birmingham Named UK's Top Van Theft Hotspot, Black Country Areas Also Rank High

Birmingham has been identified as the UK's leading hotspot for van thefts, with a staggering 1,446 vans stolen over the past two years, according to new data analysis. The findings, which cover 2024 and 2025, place the West Midlands city at the forefront of a concerning national trend in vehicle crime.

West Midlands Dominates National Rankings

The data, provided by temporary insurance provider Tempcover and based on DVLA statistics, reveals that van thefts are not evenly distributed across the country. Certain areas experience significantly higher volumes, largely influenced by population size and vehicle density. Birmingham topped the list of ten UK locations with the highest number of van thefts, followed by Sheffield with 695 incidents and Guildford with 577.

Notably, two Black Country hubs also featured prominently in the rankings. Walsall ranked fifth worst, with 495 vans stolen over the two-year period, while Wolverhampton came in at number ten, with 375 thefts recorded.
