Police sealed off a Birmingham road and evacuated homes after suspicious items were discovered during a raid on Saturday, May 9.
Residents Evacuated in Hollymoor Way
Residents living in the Hollymoor Way area of Northfield were cleared from their homes for approximately two hours as a bomb squad, firearms officers, and police were spotted at the scene. The Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called in as a precaution following the discoveries by West Midlands Police.
Road Reopened and Items Declared Safe
The road reopened shortly after 3pm, and police later confirmed that the items found were declared safe by the EOD. The raid on a home in Hollymoor Way is part of an ongoing investigation.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "As part of an ongoing investigation, officers have today been carrying out a search at an address on Hollymoor Way. This afternoon, a number of suspicious items were found at the address. As a result, the Army's EOD team have been called as a precaution. Officers remain at the scene this afternoon. As a precaution, several homes have been evacuated while searches take place."
Several marked police cars, along with a bomb disposal unit, were seen both inside and outside the police cordon. A local told BirminghamLive: "We were just told to evacuate. We've been out of our homes for around two hours, but now we can go back in. It's all a bit strange." Another resident said they thought a "white ball of some kind" had been found, though it remains unclear what that referred to.
At the time of the incident, a resident living in nearby Birch Avenue reported: "Houses evacuated. All houses evacuated. Bomb squad on the way. Army are on the way now. Armed police everywhere."
