West Midlands Police have released a CCTV image of a woman they wish to identify following the theft of a bank card from an 82-year-old woman in Birmingham. The card was taken from the victim's handbag on Washwood Heath Road on Thursday, 6 August, and subsequently used to make purchases in a local shop.
Theft and fraudulent use
The incident occurred shortly after 1pm when the suspect, described as a handbag dipper, stole the card from the pensioner's bag. The stolen card was then used to buy goods at a shop in the Washwood Heath Road area at approximately 1.10pm on the same day.
West Midlands Police have issued an image of a woman they believe may hold crucial information about the theft and subsequent fraudulent use of the card.
Description of the woman
The woman in the CCTV image is described as white and thick set. She was wearing a dark, possibly black, baseball cap and a hoodie over a t-shirt with visible lettering. She was also carrying a light-coloured, possibly pink, cross-body bag around her neck.
Police appeal for information
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We want to speak to this woman after a stolen bank card was used at a shop in Birmingham. It had been taken from the handbag of an 82-year-old woman and items were purchased in Washwood Heath Road at around 1.10pm on 6 August."
The spokesperson added: "Anyone with information is asked to contact us via Live Chat on our website, or by calling 101, and quote 20/354167/26."
Police are urging anyone who recognises the woman or has any information about the incident to come forward and assist with their enquiries.
