West Midlands Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to identify following a car break-in and several attempted break-ins in Birmingham city centre. The incident occurred on Thorp Street in the Southside area during the early hours of Wednesday, 8 July.
Officers were called to the street at around 3.30am after a vehicle was broken into and items stolen from inside. The same individual is also believed to have attempted to break into other cars parked nearby, according to the force.
Police release image of suspect
In a bid to trace the suspect, police have now published a photograph of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident. The man is described as black and clean-shaven, and in the image he is wearing a black hooded top, black trousers, and what appears to be a backpack with grey straps.
The appeal was issued by a spokesperson for West Midlands Police, who said: “Do you recognise this man? We want to speak to him after items were stolen from a vehicle parked on Thorp Street in Birmingham city centre. It happened at around 3.30am on 8 July. Attempts were also made to gain entry to several cars in the area.”
Public urged to come forward
Police are urging anyone who recognises the man or has any information about the break-ins to come forward. They have asked members of the public to call 101 and quote crime reference number 20/316724/26.
The incident adds to concerns about vehicle crime in the city centre, which has seen a series of similar offences in recent months. Local residents and business owners have been advised to remain vigilant and ensure their vehicles are securely locked.
