A sex offender has been sentenced to prison following an unannounced police visit that uncovered breaches of his court order.
Background of the case
Aaron Ray Dungey, 34, was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) in December 2016 after being convicted of assault by penetration involving a girl under the age of 13. The order required him to comply with strict conditions, including a prohibition on any contact with children.
Discovery of breaches
On February 9, officers from Northamptonshire Police conducted an unannounced visit to Dungey's home in Butterfields, Wellingborough. During the visit, they found evidence that he had violated the terms of his SHPO. A forensic examination of his mobile phone revealed that he had been in contact with three children.
Arrest and court proceedings
Dungey was arrested and subsequently charged with three counts of breaching his SHPO. He appeared at Northampton Magistrates' Court on February 10, where he pleaded guilty to all charges. On April 16, he was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court to 18 months in prison.
Police response
Following the sentencing, Risk Management Officer Lucy Fraser-Allen from the force's management of sexual offenders and violent offenders team stated: “Sexual Harm Prevention Orders are put in place to protect the public, particularly children, from individuals who pose a risk. Aaron Dungey was fully aware of the conditions he was required to follow and chose to ignore them. Breaches like this will always be taken extremely seriously, and we will continue to carry out proactive checks and take robust action against registered sex offenders who fail to comply with court orders.”
