First Picture of Coventry Man Found Dead in Wheelie Bin Released
The first picture has been released of a Midlands man whose body was discovered in a wheelie bin, as his devastated family pays a heartfelt tribute, describing him as having a "vibe for life" and a charm that could "lift a dull spirit".
Discovery and Arrests in the Case
The body of Thomas Niven, aged 37 and known affectionately as 'Tom', was found in a park off Daimler Road in Coventry on Friday, March 13. In a significant development, West Midlands Police announced that three individuals were arrested on Sunday in Blackpool in connection with the incident.
A man and a woman, both in their 40s, along with a man in his 20s, were taken into custody on suspicion of murder and assisting an offender. They remain in police cells as investigations continue to unfold.
Family's Emotional Tribute to Thomas Niven
Mr Niven's family, who are being supported and updated by the police throughout the investigation, have issued a moving statement expressing their profound grief and shock. They described Tom as the youngest son, stepson, brother, brother-in-law, nephew, and uncle, whose life was tragically cut short in a cruel manner.
"As a family we are all in shock and are devastated, our hearts are in pieces at the loss of Tom in such a cruel way," the family said. "He was a pillar of strength towards us all."
They highlighted his loving and caring nature, noting his affection for family, animals, and his nephews and nieces. Tom was remembered as full of laughter, with a passion for music and playing pool, and a fondness for harmless pranks that he could never keep a straight face during.
The family added, "We are so proud to have had Tom in our lives, his life has tragically been cut short in the most cruel way. Tom will forever be missed. Justice will be done."
Police Appeal for Information
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Poole from the Major Crime Unit emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts to build a clearer picture of what transpired. He expressed gratitude for the information received so far and urged anyone with further details to come forward.
"We'd like to thank everyone who has been in touch providing information so far and we would still urge anyone who might know more to still get in contact," DCI Poole stated.
