Cyclist Critical After Hit-and-Run in Birmingham

Police have issued an urgent appeal for witnesses after a 29-year-old cyclist sustained critical injuries when he was struck by a car in Birmingham. The incident occurred on Heath Way in Hodge Hill shortly after 7:45 PM on Sunday, 26 April.

Serious Head Injury

The cyclist was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition with a serious head injury. The driver of the vehicle involved failed to stop at the scene and was last seen heading towards Coleshill Road.

Vehicle Description

The car is described as a black estate vehicle. Birmingham Police have confirmed that a vehicle suspected of being involved has been recovered and will now undergo forensic examinations.

Police Appeal

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes stated: 'Whilst the investigation is in its early stages, and the recovery of a vehicle is a positive step, I am keeping an open mind as to the circumstances of the collision and I need witnesses to come forward and assist us.'

He added: 'Collisions on the road have devastating consequences and my priority is to get answers for the injured victim and his family. I know from CCTV that there were other cars and witnesses at the location at the time of the collision and I would appeal for those people to contact us.'
