Dudley Crime Falls: Burglaries Down 16%, Shoplifting Drops 10%

Residential burglaries and shop theft offences in Dudley have fallen significantly, according to new police statistics. West Midlands Police has reported a 16 per cent reduction in residential burglaries, meaning around 100 fewer victims of this crime in the past year. Shoplifting has also dropped by nearly 10 per cent compared to the same period 12 months earlier.

Further Reductions in Theft

The force also recorded an 11 per cent cut in incidents such as theft from public spaces, theft by finding, and bicycle theft. These positive results are attributed to the work of local neighbourhood teams, response officers, the public protection unit, CID, and the Neighbourhood Crime and Serious Organised Crime and Exploitation team (SOCEX), who have been responding to crimes, acting on intelligence, and investigating reports.

Police Statement

Chief Superintendent Gill Davenport of Dudley Police said: “My teams and I know that every type of crime has an impact on its victims, and we never underestimate the impact any crime has on our community. It’s positive to see we’re making an impact across the borough, but we understand that there’s still work to do and know one crime is one too many. I would encourage anyone who’s a victim of crime to come forward and report it to us. Your help in reporting crimes like shop theft and burglary is essential in us finding and arresting those responsible and getting justice for you.”

Community Engagement

The force added: “Each area throughout Dudley has its own Dedicated Neighbourhood Officer (DNO) who works within the local policing teams also offering a visual presence as they work alongside other departments across the force. We’re here for you 24/7 and the more information we receive, the better we can address issues that matter most to you. Our Dudley officers hold regular beat surgeries in areas across the district which are advertised on the website and on our free community messaging page WM Now.”
