Rebecca Hinton, 44, of Eagle Close, Dudley, has been left with a three-figure court bill after pleading guilty to two theft offences and assault by beating. The incidents occurred on April 25, when she stole meat products worth £300-£400 from Sainsbury's Local in Louise Street, Lower Gornal, and later items including chocolate and alcohol worth £226.50 from One Stop in Coseley.
Incident details and court proceedings
At around 8.30pm, Hinton entered the Sainsbury's store with two others. When the store manager approached them with a body-worn camera, Hinton pushed him before leaving. Approximately half an hour later, she and others entered the One Stop store and stole goods. Dudley Magistrates' Court heard that Hinton was using crack cocaine at the time but had since sought help and was now 'clean from class A substances'.
In mitigation, the court was told she was 'trying to stop herself being filmed' rather than intending to cause injury. The magistrate noted this was a 'costly episode' and expressed hope not to see her again.
Financial penalties and compensation
Hinton was fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 court costs and £150 compensation. The total financial penalty amounts to £355, reflecting the seriousness of the offences.
