A murder investigation is underway in Birmingham after a man was stabbed to death on a residential street in Small Heath on Saturday evening. Armed officers rushed to the scene following emergency calls, but despite attempts to save him, the victim was pronounced dead at the location.
Quiet Cul-de-Sac 'Lit Up By Blue Lights'
Residents of the normally quiet Swanage Road described their shock as the area was suddenly flooded with the flashing blue lights of multiple police vehicles shortly after 6.40pm on December 20. One local told how their street was "lit up by blue lights", emphasising that the cul-de-sac is typically a peaceful place.
Another resident suggested the property involved was a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO), while a different neighbour expressed sadness that such a tragedy had occurred so close to Christmas, stating their heart went out to the victim's family.
Emergency Response and Arrest
Police and paramedics performed CPR on the man in a desperate bid to save his life. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene on Swanage Road. Armed police officers detained a suspect at the location.
West Midlands Police confirmed that a 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning. The force stated they are in the early stages of their investigation.
Ongoing Police Investigation
Forensic teams and police officers remained at the scene throughout Sunday, December 21, with a police guard in place outside a terraced house and forensic vans parked in the street. A cordon was established as officers carried out urgent enquiries.
A police spokesperson said: "We are in the early stages of our investigation, and a scene remains in place while we carry out urgent enquiries in the area to establish exactly what happened."
