West Midlands Police have launched an urgent investigation after reckless thugs triggered a fire extinguisher on a packed public bus in Birmingham, creating chaos and forcing frightened passengers to evacuate immediately.
The dangerous incident occurred on board the number 11 service as it travelled along Coventry Road in the Small Heath area at approximately 7:20 PM on Tuesday evening. According to authorities, the culprits deliberately activated the emergency safety equipment, filling the bus cabin with chemical powder and creating a hazardous environment for everyone on board.
Dangerous Behaviour Could Have Ended in Tragedy
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police emphasised the seriousness of the situation, stating: "This was an incredibly stupid and dangerous act that could have had tragic consequences. Releasing a fire extinguisher in a confined space like a bus not only creates panic but could potentially obstruct visibility for the driver or cause breathing difficulties for passengers."
Emergency services rushed to the scene following multiple reports from concerned passengers and witnesses. The bus was temporarily taken out of service for thorough cleaning and safety checks before being returned to operation.

Investigators are now scouring CCTV footage from both the bus and surrounding areas in hopes of identifying those responsible. Officers are particularly keen to speak with anyone who was travelling on the number 11 bus around the time of the incident or who witnessed suspicious behaviour near the Coventry Road route.
Detectives have warned that those found responsible could face serious charges including criminal damage and endangering public safety. The number 11 bus route, which connects the city centre to eastern suburbs, is one of Birmingham's busiest corridors, carrying thousands of passengers daily.
