Nearly 30 firefighters were called to a blaze at a Black Country beauty spot on Sunday afternoon, as hot and dry conditions continue to heighten the risk of fires across the region.
Eight crews were dispatched to Millfields Pool, off Canterbury Road in West Bromwich, after flames swept through grassland. The fire was quickly extinguished, but left acres of burnt-out scrub behind.
No injuries were reported in the incident, according to West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS).
Precautionary advice issued to residents
During the operation, householders were advised to keep doors and windows closed as a precaution. WMFS issued a statement saying: "We have eight crews in attendance at Millfields Pool, Canterbury Road, West Bromwich, where they have responded to a fire in the open. As a precaution, if you live or work nearby, please keep doors and windows closed. Avoid the area, where possible."
The fire was one of several incidents for the service over the weekend, as weeks of drought-like conditions have turned open spaces into a tinderbox.
Another fire reported in Kingshurst
Another fire was also reported on Babbs Mill Fields near Swan Drive and Lark Meadow Drive in Kingshurst on the same day, adding to the pressure on emergency services.
The incidents highlight the heightened fire risk across the West Midlands, with dry vegetation providing ample fuel for flames. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any signs of fire immediately.
