Disturbing CCTV footage has emerged showing a dangerous vandal firing fireworks directly at a moving bus in Birmingham, in what police are treating as a serious assault on public transport.
The shocking incident, captured on the bus's onboard camera system, shows the moment a hooded individual deliberately aims pyrotechnics at the vehicle as it travels along a city street. The attack caused significant alarm among passengers and crew, though miraculously no injuries were reported.
Terrifying Moment Captured on Camera
The video evidence clearly shows the perpetrator waiting by the roadside before launching the aggressive assault. As the National Express West Midlands bus approaches, the yob can be seen lighting and throwing fireworks toward the vehicle in a calculated act of vandalism that endangered multiple lives.
A spokesperson for National Express West Midlands confirmed: "We are assisting West Midlands Police with their investigation into this frightening incident. The safety of our customers and drivers is always our top priority, and we have zero tolerance for attacks on our services."
Police Hunt for Reckless Attacker
West Midlands Police have launched a full investigation into the incident and are appealing to the public for information. Officers are conducting house-to-house enquiries and reviewing additional CCTV footage from the surrounding area.
Detective Sergeant James Cooper stated: "This was an incredibly dangerous and foolish act that could have had catastrophic consequences. Firing fireworks at any vehicle, particularly one carrying members of the public, is completely unacceptable and we're treating this with the utmost seriousness."
Growing Concern Over Transport Safety
The attack has raised fresh concerns about the safety of public transport workers and passengers in the region. Bus drivers' unions have expressed alarm at the increasing frequency of such incidents and are calling for stronger protections.
Local councillor Mary Thompson commented: "This kind of behaviour is absolutely deplorable. Our bus drivers and passengers deserve to travel safely without fear of such mindless attacks. We're working closely with transport operators and police to address these issues."
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact West Midlands Police immediately, quoting the reference number provided in their official appeal.
