A three-year-old girl sustained serious injuries after being struck by a car in a Birmingham street on Thursday evening. The incident occurred on Pelham Road in Alum Rock shortly after 6pm on August 13, prompting a major emergency response.
Ambulance response and treatment
West Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched four crews to the scene, including two ambulances, a paramedic officer, and a MERIT (Medical Emergency Response Incident Team) trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic. The girl received advanced trauma care at the scene before being transported to Birmingham Children's Hospital for further treatment.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “A child has sustained serious injuries following a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Alum Rock yesterday (Thursday, August 13). We were called shortly after 6pm to Pelham Road, Alum Rock, in Birmingham.
“Upon arrival, we found a girl who was the pedestrian. She was assessed and had sustained serious injuries. She received advanced trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further treatment.”
Police appeal for witnesses
West Midlands Police confirmed that the driver remained at the scene and is assisting with enquiries. The force is now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
A spokesperson for the force said: “We were called to Pelham Road, Birmingham, at around 6.15pm yesterday (13 August) to reports a child had been hit by a car. A girl aged three was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the car remained at the scene and is helping with our enquiries.
