The incident occurred on Wednesday 1 July at approximately 7.30pm, when a woman had her bag stolen. A male bystander, acting as a good Samaritan, was injured while attempting to retrieve the bag for the victim.

The theft took place in Bordesley Green, close to the hospital grounds. The suspect is described as wearing a cap and a jacket in the images released by police. Despite the victim's ordeal and the injury to the intervening man, no arrests have been made so far.

In a statement issued today, Thursday 6 August, a police spokesperson said: "We’d like to speak to him about a theft and assault near Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham. A bag was stolen from a woman at around 7.30pm on Wednesday 1 July, and a man was hurt whilst trying to get it back."
The appeal continues: "If you recognise the man pictured or can help our investigation, call 101 quoting crime reference 20/307591/26."
