Staff Member Assaulted During Morning Robbery
Police are urgently appealing to the public to help identify a man captured on CCTV following a disturbing robbery and assault at a Greggs bakery in Telford. The incident occurred at the New Street branch in Wellington, Telford, at approximately 8:30 am on Sunday, November 9.
According to West Mercia Police, a man entered the popular food-to-go shop and attempted to steal a quantity of sandwiches. When a courageous employee intervened to challenge him, the situation escalated dramatically.
Violent Outburst and Abusive Language
The suspect did not simply flee. Instead, he launched a physical attack on the staff member and subjected them to a torrent of verbal abuse. Having assaulted the employee, the man then left the premises, making his escape from the scene.
In their efforts to trace the individual responsible, officers have released two clear CCTV images of a man they are keen to speak with. The images show a white male with a moustache, who was wearing what appears to be a grey hooded top with the hood up at the time of the offence.
Appeal to Identify Grinning Suspect
One of the released photographs is particularly striking, as it appears to show the man grinning. Investigators believe he holds vital information that could significantly assist their enquiry into this serious retail crime.
West Mercia Police have issued a direct plea to the community for assistance. A spokesperson stated: "Officers are keen to identify the man in the images, as they believe he can assist with enquiries."
