Group vandalises family car after Eid celebrations in Birmingham

This is the shocking moment a group of men targeted a family's car after Eid celebrations in Birmingham. The incident occurred on Stoney Lane in Balsall Heath at approximately 11.33pm on Wednesday, May 27.

In footage obtained by BirminghamLive, the group can be seen ripping apart the car and smashing windows while someone is heard screaming. An eyewitness described the violence as 'very extreme' and questioned whether the area is safe to visit at night.

The witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said: 'I arrived as this was happening and not before it started. I was concerned for the people in the car as there were women and a young child in the vehicle.'

He added: 'The violence to the vehicle was very extreme. I did feel a huge disappointment to see this type of behaviour against the people in the car that included a child and a woman. On a night where everyone should be celebrating, to cause harm to someone is most disconcerting and not what is expected.'

The witness further stated: 'I did feel I would be in danger if I were to approach and try to stop them as there were a group of lads. It has deterred me from visiting the area at night. This is shocking behaviour and especially if it can happen against families on a day like Eid when people are celebrating with their families, it has made me think it is not safe.'

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: 'We were called after receiving reports that a car was damaged near the junction of Stoney Lane and Alfred Street at around 11.30pm on Wednesday (27 May). An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing to establish the details. Anyone who witnessed the incident can contact us via Live Chat on our website or by calling 101 quoting crime reference number 20/264353/26.'
