Armed police swoop on Birmingham suburb
A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm following a major police incident in the Moseley area of Birmingham on Sunday morning. West Midlands Police were called to Oxford Road at approximately 7:05am after receiving reports of a man seen carrying a gun.
Road sealed off during police operation
Officers, including both marked and unmarked police vehicles, quickly attended the scene. Oxford Road was closed at its junction with School Road, creating significant disruption in the residential area. An eyewitness described seeing "lots and lots of blue lights" and noted the presence of a removal truck vehicle as part of the police operation.
The witness, who arrived at the scene around 9am, stated: "Oxford Road leading to M&S was blocked for a major police incident. I saw a number of unmarked police cars and a couple of marked police cars." The road closure remained in effect for several hours while police conducted their investigation.
Suspect remains in custody
The arrested man remains in police custody while enquiries continue. A spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed: "Officers attended and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of possession of a firearm. He remains in custody at this time and officers are carrying out further searches in the area today as part of their investigation."
The police response involved multiple units, indicating the seriousness with which the firearms report was treated. The incident occurred on November 9 in the early hours of the morning, causing alarm in the typically quiet suburban neighbourhood.
