This is the moment a man who was jailed after a shooting on a Birmingham street was captured by police. Jordan Edwards had remained at large after the 48-year-old victim was shot following an argument on Glen Side, Bartley Green, on August 28, 2024. But on January 12 last year, his luck ran out when he was spotted by officers who were determined not to let him out of their sights.
Pursuit and Arrest
A pursuit began and bodycam footage showed Edwards, 32, fleeing and hiding in a flat off Hylton Street in the Jewellery Quarter. Police forced their way in and aimed a Taser at a bespectacled Edwards before arresting him. During a search, a loaded 9mm pistol was recovered, along with cocaine worth around £15,000, and £10,000 hidden in a washing basket in the kitchen.
Trial and Sentencing
Edwards was found guilty at trial of possession of a prohibited weapon and ammunition, as well as wounding, and possession of cocaine with intent to supply. He was jailed for 14-and-a-half years at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday.
Police Statement
Det Sgt Michael Fisher, from West Midlands Police's Major Crime Unit, said: “This was extreme violence using a firearm, on a summer’s afternoon in Birmingham. Guns have no place on our streets, and we work around the clock to bring those who think it’s acceptable to carry or use them to justice. Edwards will now spend years behind bars, and we’ve taken another gun off the streets as a result.”
Details of the Shooting
The victim had been driving a white Peugeot van in Bartley Green area on August 28, 2024 when he got into a row with the driver of a white Audi. Both vehicles pulled up on Glen Side, where the victim was joined by his brother. A fight broke out before Edwards arrived in another Audi and the 48-year-old was shot in the stomach. The victim’s brother, who was known to Edwards, was hit over the head with a brick. After police analysed CCTV, digital evidence and witness statements, Edwards was identified as the gunman.
