Handsworth stabbing: Police hunt for teen suspect

Police Continue Manhunt Following Fatal Handsworth Stabbing

A police scene remained active in a Birmingham residential area for more than 48 hours after a teenager was stabbed to death. The violent incident occurred on Sunday, November 16, at around 5.20pm at the junction of Hutton Road and Stamford Road in Handsworth.

A 19-year-old man, Yassin Alama, was fatally knifed during the attack, which has left his family absolutely devastated. Specialist police officers are currently providing support to them as they come to terms with their loss.

Ongoing Investigation and Public Appeal

Police have identified a suspect in the case and are actively searching for 17-year-old Oumar Traore. Detective Jenny Birch, from the West Midlands Police homicide team, confirmed that several attempts to arrest Traore were made in the hours following the killing.

She issued a direct appeal to the public, stating: "We need to find and arrest Traore as soon as possible. If anyone sees him, or has information about where he might be, they should not approach him but call us straight away on 999, quoting log 3135 of November 16."

Community Impact and Political Response

The police cordon, which was first established on Sunday evening, was still in place on Tuesday, November 18. The scene's presence continues to disrupt daily life.

Several businesses located within the taped-off area were unable to open, and residents required a police escort to access their own homes. A blue forensic tent remained visible at the location, and a corner shop at the junction remained closed.

Local MP Ayoub Khan responded to the tragedy, calling it "Yet another tragic death following a stabbing" and offering his thoughts and prayers to the victim’s family and friends.
