A special service and parade is set to take place in Hinckley, offering the community a chance to show support for the Armed Forces. The moving event will occur in the town center on Saturday, June 27, and is organized by the borough council in collaboration with local veteran groups and churches. Representatives from various regiments and services will participate.
Annual Event Marks 18th Year
Now in its 18th year, this annual gathering provides an opportunity for everyone to express gratitude to currently serving troops, service families, veterans, and cadets. The morning will commence at approximately 10:50am when a procession departs from outside Jasper's store on Castle Street.
Parade Route and Service
The parade will march into Argents Mead for a celebratory service beginning at 11am. Led by Reverend Ian Hill, the service will offer a moment of reflection for the community. Following the service, the parade will proceed down Castle Street and along Station Road, where a formal salute will be taken. The salute will be led by Kevin Buchanan, representing the Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire.
Council Leader's Call to Support
Councillor Dawn Glenville from the borough council remarked: "Armed Forces Day is an opportunity both to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to celebrate the dedicated service given by our serving personnel, reservists, and veterans." She added: "It is also a chance to recognize the wider armed forces community, including cadet forces, the families of servicemen and women, and civilian support personnel. I hope that residents and visitors will take the opportunity to come and support Armed Forces Day."
Family-Friendly Attractions
After the formal parade in Argents Mead, visitors can enjoy a variety of family-friendly attractions. A special history stand will showcase fascinating wartime memorabilia for attendees to view. The Hinckley branch of the Royal British Legion will also host a stall to share information about their vital work. Younger visitors will be entertained with children's tomahawk throwing taking place between 10am and 2pm. Families can also enjoy a fun stilt-walking performance from a popular entertainer named Mr Biggles.
