A community has rallied behind a Birmingham family after their home was devastated in a house fire. The family, including two children, managed to escape the blaze at the terraced property in Westfield Road, Kings Heath, on Saturday, June 6.
The fire ripped through the upstairs of their three-storey home after breaking out in a bedroom, leaving the family with "almost nothing but each other."
GoFundMe launched to help family rebuild
A GoFundMe page has been created by local resident Adam Berry to raise money for the family and help them "rebuild." Writing on the fundraising page, which has raised more than £740 so far, Mr Berry said: "A nightmare became reality for one local family. A devastating fire tore through the upper floors of their home, leaving them with almost nothing but each other. Miraculously, both children made it out safely - but the road ahead is long. This family has lost so much in a matter of hours. Now they need our help to rebuild."
Mr Berry said the money raised will be used to replace furniture such as beds and sofas, as well as toys for the children. He added: "Every contribution, no matter how small, brings them one step closer to feeling safe and secure again. Thank you so much for your kindness and support."
Fire service response
A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: "Shortly before 5.20pm on June 6, we responded to Westfield Road, Kings Heath, Birmingham. Three fire engines and a 4x4 brigade response vehicle from Billesley, Ladywood and Kings Norton attended - the first arriving within five minutes of being mobilised. This was a fire in a first-floor bedroom in a three-storey residential property. Three hose reels were used to extinguish the fire, which is believed to have started accidentally. There were no reported casualties or injuries. We damped down and left this incident at 11.16pm."
The community continues to show support for the family during this difficult time.
