Staffordshire Police have activated dispersal order powers in Lichfield city centre following reports of large groups of youths causing disruption. The enhanced measures, effective from 3pm on Tuesday to 3pm on Thursday, target incidents involving cannabis use, vandalism, and nuisance caused by e-scooters and off-road bikes.
Zone Covers Key Areas
The dispersal zone, granted under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, covers the city centre, Beacon Park, and Stowe Pool, stretching from the Western By-pass to Birmingham Road. This red-lined area grants officers the authority to break up groups, move individuals on, and arrest those who fail to comply.
Inspector Melissa Byrne stated: "We don't take this type of behaviour lightly and we know that anti-social behaviour and associated criminality is having an affect on local people and businesses." The move comes after reports of abusive youths targeting citygoers, with businesses and residents expressing growing concern.

Under the dispersal order, officers can return anyone under 16 to their home address. Authorities are urging parents to explain the consequences of persistent anti-social behaviour to their children.
