Ten people were injured in a horrifying shooting at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on the afternoon of April 22. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects, who are believed to be one to two individuals.
The Baton Rouge Police Department confirmed that at least ten people were possibly injured, with two victims in critical condition, according to the Daily Star. Authorities have since declared that the situation is no longer an active shooter incident.
Reports indicate that the shooting involved two groups of people and took place in the food court of the popular shopping center. Victims were transported to hospitals, and a triage was set up near JCPenney, as reported by WAFB 9. Residents are advised to avoid the area while law enforcement continues to respond.
According to Fox 32, agents from the US Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the FBI are at the scene. Governor Jeff Landry released a statement saying, "I am aware of the active shooter scene at the Mall of Louisiana. I am in coordination with law enforcement and we will update as we know more. Please avoid the area. Sharon and I are praying for those affected and are grateful for a quick response by our law enforcement officials."
Attorney General Liz Murrill stated, "I have spoken to District Attorney Hillar Moore, who is actively monitoring the situation involving a weapon or weapons being discharged in the Food Court at the Mall of Louisiana. Multiple law enforcement agencies are responding – please avoid the area. More details will be available soon."
EBR Mayor-President Sid Edwards, who arrived at the mall, said, "I’m on scene at the mall. We have set up a command post. There has been a shooting with multiple victims. All civilians have been safely escorted out of the mall. Please keep the victims and their families in your prayers."
